In 1985 Mark Everett, future Eels frontman, recorded an album before moving out West for fame and fortune. Titled Bad Dude In Love, the LP was released on Joe Mama Records with a print run in the low to mid-hundreds. Copies were handed out to friends, and Everett moved on.
Bad Dude In Love was resigned to the vaults of obscurity until 2005 when a copy appeared on eBay. Pulled as suddenly as it had appeared, the LP set the Eels fan community abuzz, culminating years later with a trip I made to the Library of Congress where a copy is, surprisingly, on site and waiting for listeners.
Read a review of the LP and my thoughts on it here: Bad Dude In Love Review.
And if you’re planning on making a trip to Washington DC, check with the Library of Congress to schedule your own listening session. Note: You can only make appointments during the week, and no, they won’t mail you a copy.
Oh, and if you should happen to come across a copy of Bad Dude In Love or have additional information to share, contact me at therockhardtimes@gmail.com.
